Margarita immigrated to the United States at four years old. First-generation Mexican-American, she grew up in Chicago carrying two worlds at once, and refusing to let either one be a limit.
As a DACA recipient, she was ineligible for financial aid. So her industrial engineering degree at the University of Illinois Chicago took nearly six years, paid for on her own terms, and completed as one of very few women in her program.
She built a career in tech and product leadership while teaching yoga since 2012. Two lives, running in parallel: one in enterprise software, one on the mat. She kept both because both were true.
In August 2022, the threads braided together. She founded The Latina Sweat Project as pop-up classes in Little Village and mutual aid sessions inside migrant shelters. A movement, built from the ground up, for her community.
